What Do Landscapers Do In The Winter?
Composite garden decking is a fantastic alternative to standard garden decking for many reasons including its quality, its versatility, and its low levels of maintenance, to name a few. So, if you’re looking for a beautiful and undemanding decking option to spruce up your garden, composite garden decking may be the way to go.

Here at Outback Landscapes, we have compiled a list of benefits to help you understand composite garden decking and how it could be helpful for you.

IT IS VERSATILE AND AESTHETIC

Composite decking is available in various shapes and colours, so you’ll have no problem finding decking to fit your space and aesthetic. Gardens with composite decking don’t look cheap. Although a portion of the decking is plastic, good-quality composite decking can look just as good as genuine hardwood decking without the hassle.

IT’S LOW MAINTENANCE

Plastic garden decking doesn’t undergo the same processes as genuine hardwood when exposed to temperamental weather conditions. Wooden decking absorbs water when it rains, expands, and contracts as it dries. This process can result in warping, cracks, and splinters. Which, over time, can lower the structural integrity of the decking and cause it to be dangerous to walk on.

This is a natural process for wood but isn’t likely for plastic garden decking. Unless submerged in water or rained on for an extended period, composite garden decking will remain water-resistant and won’t suffer from prolonged UV exposure.

Additionally, it isn’t necessary to paint, stain or seal composite decking to ensure it remains good as new. Plastic garden decking is resistant to rotting and weathering and endures up to 30 years with proper treatment and semi-annual cleaning. All you need to clean composite decking is soap, hot water, and a soft bristle brush. No special tools are required.

COMPOSITE DECKING DOESN’T ATTRACT PESTS OR MOULD

Gardens with composite decking may see the number of pests circling the decking and the amount of mould growing decrease. This is because there is no decaying wood for termites and other unwanted insects to feed on and burrow into and no moist wood for mould to thrive on. Since plastic is naturally resistant to water retention, there is no nutritional value in composite decking to pests or mould.

GARDENS WITH COMPOSITE DECKING ARE GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Composite decking is one of the most environmentally friendly decking products available, as it is primarily made of wood and recycled plastic. The plastic used to make the decking is usually sourced from industrial and consumer waste in landfills. The purpose of this is to reduce the amount of non-biodegradable waste sitting in landfills and put its durability to use.

Since it is unnecessary for composite decking to be stained, no potentially hazardous or toxic chemicals need to be added to it, further benefiting the environment.
